In all of South America, Venezuela has the cheapest air connections to both the U.S. and Europe (going to
Brazil or Argentina, however, is very expensive, so shop around).
The cheapest rate would into Miami or out from Miami.
Rack-rate for a one-way economy class air ticket on a scheduled flight is around $150, and
if you look for a bargain, you can easily find the ticket in the $120 range.
Some carriers - notably, the Venezuelan "Avensa" and "Servivensa" - often run specials and when
they do, the price drops below $99 U.S. oneway, or $198 for a round trip ticket.
Be sure to check the "Aeropostal" rate, too. It is a Venezuelan airline with North American capital,
good service, modern planes, excellent fares.
To and from Europe can be $650 roundtrip. This is a special fare, sometimes available from companies
such as Lufthansa and Air France. If you want to go to Lisbon, Madrid or Rome, the price is
around $800 to $900.
All of these airfares get even cheaper if you book with a charter plane. Ask the package companies,
tour operators. Most of them only fly for part of the year, however, and fly only to Margarita, the
main island.
That's not a bad deal. Margarita is a good destination. If you want the more
undiscovered beaches, however, then ferries leave for the mainland several times a day, at about $15 or so.
