Villas for long-term stays.
I spoke to a book-writer from England recently. He had stayed in Venezuela, on the beach, for some three months now. He had rented a house all to himself. His rent: $450 monthly, or average $15 per day.

The place he rented was on the grounds on a beach resort, the "Oro Verde" in Boca de Uchire (midway between Caracas and Puerto de La Cruz). The hotel people even threw in the daily meals for free! Only drinks were extra, but he bought his own bottles in town, so it was not expensive.

The $450 for house and food included was a lot less than the normal ratecard of the hotel, but he got this price because he rented on a monthly and not daily basis. They welcomed the longterm arrangement and steady occupancy. You can strike similar deals with many other places, too.
Here are some websites, with pictures, to get you started on your search for a house or a villa:

  • Oro Verde's website

  • the South Caribbean Secrets website

I also want to mention a Beach Club place on the beach about an hour and a half from Caracas. It is the former presidential retreat of Venezuela, now in private hands and with private apartments.

This is probably as good as it gets in the entire country, and more expensive than elsewhere. But I know from personal contact that if you book in the off-season, you can get a really good deal. And for those looking to purchase property on the beach, there is really no competition. Tower apartments at the Beach Club are less than $20,000 with maid service include, marina, and "club resort" style bars and restaurants. Check out their website:
